Appreciating Koi
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, therefore individual preferences for koi vary
from person to person.
However the following points are to consider when you are looking for a show
koi.
- Good body shape with Proper volume
- Color must be thick(deep), concentrated, correct and even
- White color should be pure as snow
- Pattern is well balanced, across and along the body
- Skin should be bright and glossy
- Evenly spaced and well lined up scale
- Lack of small spots of red or black
Remember no two kois are alike, when you first start keeping koi. it is probably
better to choose a fish that
appeals to the eye rather than one you think might
be a potential grand champion.
Choosing Healthy Koi
Any fish you intend to buy should be healthy and lively.
The signs to look for are:

- Clear, well-set eyes
- Clean and complete fins
- Straight back
- Absence of any lumps or bulges

- Gills are open and not closed
- Swimming actively
- No erratic, abrupt or exaggerated movements
