Taming Tips For Every Koi Keepers
- Keep a
decent-sized Chakoi – better still, two. They are known as the leading koi
as they are
bolder and easier to be tame first, their calming influence
could effect other fishes faster.
They are less shy when they are in a group.
Feed them at the same time where possible, and at the same place in the pond.
Avoid sudden movements which can startle them, engaging their escape mode.
Stop feeding for a few days, appear slowly each feeding time at the same feeding
spot and wait for a few minutes. On the third day, reach down slowly
and gently touch the water with your hand. Repeat this for the next 2
or 3 days and finally, on the 5th or 6th day, leave some food. Now,
the hungry koi will associate your approach with feeding time and will subsequently
greet you each time you arrive.
Don't walk away from the pond when they start to eat, stay there, observe them and let them get to know you.
Don’t expect success overnight. Taming is a gradual process which takes time and
patience, but the end result is great satisfaction.
